Otter River State Forest is in North Central Massachusetts and is the oldest park in the MA State Park System. The park is open for camping and also for day use.
- Start at the Contact/Ranger Station
- Facing the station, head to your right towards the pond
- Go over the bridge (be sure to check out the waterfalls created by the dam and to take a moment to read the history of the Civilian Conservation Corp.)
- On the far side of the bridge, pass a beach on your right and the Craft Center on your left
- Follow the wide dirt path directly ahead up to the paved road
- At #63, make a left and follow the road around past the bath house
- At #58, make a left and follow road down and quickly to the right
- Come to the arch that reads Wilderness McKenzie Nature Trail
- Pass under the arch and follow the blue dots on trees (the trail is very well marked)
- You will pass #2-#5
- Hop, skip and jump through #6 and make your way through #7
- #8 is set back and to your left - pay attention here - your path turns
- At #8 you will find two trees flanking the path with blue arrows pointing right and sending you up the hill
- Hike the hill (come on, you can do it!)
- When the hill levels out, you are almost there
- You will find a bench on your right (near a #13 marker) and you will very likely want to sit, drink some water, and take a much needed rest
- The box you seek is located under this bench
- Please replace the box carefully and send us a note when you find it
Happy Letterboxing from Team Acorn!
