Gotta' Go Green

Directions : 95 take exit 91. Northbounders, take a right at stoplight,..Southbounders, take a left & go straight through traffic light. Soon you will see a bunch of signs at an intersection of North Main St. & Pequot trail. There is a GREEN sign with an arrow "Stonington Borough". Take this LEFT. Approx - 1.0 mi. on your right is a land trust "Paffard Woods" It's a small entry between a break in a stonewall on your right. When you start seeing very large Maples on both sides of road - past a farm Slow Down. You can also access this from Rt. #1 & North Main at an intersection with a 4 way traffic light. Go about 500 yds. up & look LEFT for a break in the wall.

You will need a compass, ink Pad or Magic Markers - Green,

About 1 1/2 hour lingering, gandering & stamping in. (There are other boxes here as well) See more clues - Stonington CT - Please be discrete & take time to find a spot off trail to stamp in.

Box # 1
At the sign board, pass under wire with pink ribbons. in a very few steps you will come to a "Y" in the trail. Bear Left. Continue on this path, going down hill, leveling out & going over rocky terrain. Soon you will come to a large Y shaped,.. DEAD Oak, a few steps beyond,.. pass over a very large Boulder in the trail. Now you should see a very large Red Oak on your left. Your prize is in the "cave" on the
south-east side of the 2nd rock adjoining this tree.

Box # 2
Continue on the trail going in a southerly direction. Over scrambles,.. Uphill & soon to a very distinct and rather large,..Downed Tree on your right. Pass by this and soon your path will be going downhill once again & bearing left through a stone wall. After crossing stonewall,.. path will bear right & through another stone wall. You should see a wooden Bridge. - Cross this bridge, through kinda wettish area and head up a small hill. You should be staring at a Big Twin Sister Red Oak.- Go to it. Take a bearing of 45
degrees,.. to a small Swamp Maple with two rocks leaning on it, (aprox 16 paces), smallest rock remove and in cave is your prize.

Box # 3
After stamping in,.. head back to that twin sister Oak Tree, this is the trail you want. It kinda takes a Right around. Continue on this trail. You will come to a A White Oak with 4 Blue Blazes. 10 steps beyond is another White oak with 4 Blue Blazes bear right here, Take 16 steps. There Is a TRIANGLE of paths here. Go left through the stonewall and shortly you'll be crossing a dead tree in the path. At about 30 - 35 paces, you will come to a "T". Go Right. Soon you should see a VERY lonely Pine on the other side of a wall & walking further,...come to an extremely large downed tree whose stump is 20' tall. 10 paces from the stump,.. STOP. Gaze at 3 very large Steadfast Soldiers gaurding a stonewall on the left. Pass # 1, and # 2 Holds your prize on the North side under a rock,... at its Base.

Continue on this trail its the shortest way back to your car,.. you'll go over another bridge, pass a lovely stream & soon heading up hill to see some very large Boulders. go right downhill, up some homemade stairs staying straight, cross a small stream,... & back to your car.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS LOOP,
