This last Summer Birder ( Oregon Letterboxer) gave us his old personal stamp to hide and we gave him one of ours (see Metolious Goose).

While the area around Kern Valley can not compare to that of the Metolious River, we figured that the most appropriate location for one of Birder’s creations would be the Audubon Society’s Kern River Preserve located at 18747 CA-178 in Wheldon. The preserve is unfortunately currently closed to the public due to flooding from the south fork of the Kern river. All signage has been removed from the front so rely on the address or gps to find it. This box was originally planted along the preserve's trail system but due to flooding and the preserve's closure, I've replanted it where it can be reached until the preserve reopens to the public.

Head to the preserve and find the unmarked entrance gate between a red willow and a giant cottonwillow, there's plenty of room along the fence to safely park. To the west of the preserve entrance gate is a Care for California anti littering sign, head towards this sign. A few steps before the sign is a very pronounced spor. Box is underneath.
