Otis Smith Farm Letterbox:
Cumberland, Rhode Island
Planted: June 7, 2003
Length: Round trip,Scott Road to Letterbox & Back

Difficulty: Easy; Wooded uneven ground with rock-out crops and wetlands. Great for Children and Dogs
Directions:
Take exit 10 off of Route 295 and go south on Route 122 (Mendon Road.) for 0.5 miles. Scott Road is on the left opposite Ashton Fire Station. Turn onto Scott Road and travel 1.6 miles to the trailhead. Park on the right hand side of the road near the Cumberland Land Trust sign for the Otis Smith Trail.
The Otis Smith Farm is a 53-Acre, Open Space Greenway that is maintained by the Cumberland Land Trust.
The Cumberland Land Trust is a private, non-profit, charitable, conservation organization run by a dedicated group of volunteers. Their mission is to preserve the natural resources of Cumberland for present and future generations by preserving land for open space. Since incorporation in 1989, they have helped protect 200 acres of land acquired through purchase, donation and conservation easements. For more information check out,

Clue:
Follow the white triangular trail blazes around a large rock-out-crop that you may find rock climbers bouldering on and down through a lowland area. During my trek to set this letterbox I spooked two deer and saw a red tail hawk. As the trail crosses a stonewall, take a compass reading of 314° and travel 45’ to a large boulder. In the overhang of the boulder and under a pile of leaves is what you seek.
Continue your hike past Little Pond and another stonewall. This will lead you to Sunset Rock, a great place for a picnic and a sunset.
