Calico cat was a single postal that I sent out while living through last year's NH winter. I recently moved back to San Diego and brought the stamp with me to plant here. The calico is a reference to the type of fabrics used in quilts, which I tried to imitate on the body of the cat.
Clues:
To find this box, go to Black Mountain Road either by Route 56 or Mira Mesa Blvd. Turn West onto Park Village Road and follow it all the way to the end through the residential neighborhood. Where Park Village Road intersects with Celome is where you will enter Los Penasquitos Preserve (for those of you familiar with the Thomas Bros guide the page is 1188, J-7). There is a sign that reads "Dead End" here.
Go down the hill about 10 steps to the first very large intersection. Take the road right, keeping the buzzing power lines on your right and the brown telephone poles on your left. Follow the road as it turns first to the left and then to the right, going slightly down and then uphill and passing under the power lines. You will soon see the second large metal power line structure and will find it easiest to get to by going up the road and then turning left where the ground evens out and the bushes are few. Stand at the far southwest corner and count 15 steps forward. Look to the right and find the neat pile of rocks between two bushes. The box is under some bigger rocks and on top of some smaller ones.
Bring an ink pad and pen with you. Sorry, there is no room for these or a hitchhiker.
Please return the stamp and logbook to the box the same way you found it (inside the bag, folded) and make sure the snaps go snap! to keep bugs and water from getting inside.
