Veteran's Memorial Park #3 - Navy
Phase 2 of the College Station Veteran’s Park and Athletic Complex was completed in 2007. It now has 5 softball fields, 14 soccer fields, a pavilion and playground, and concession stands. Twelve acres of the park are designated as a Veterans Memorial which encompasses a Veterans Memorial sculpture designed by Robert Eccleston and a garden plaza. It was dedicated to all veterans of the Brazos Valley who have served in all US wars, in November 2002.
The Navy letterbox is dedicated to all those who served in the US Navy, especially my husband Hank who served for 23 years.
You can find the park at 3101 Harvey Road by taking the Harvey Road exit (SH 30) East from Hwy 6. About 1 mile down on the left, turn into the entrance of the park. Follow the main road all the way through the park until you come to a dead end sign. Bear left and take the first entrance into the parking area. Go straight and park in the first spot facing the rest room but to the far left. There is a small planter full of Oleanders at the end of the sidewalk.
From the SW edge of the planter walk straight between the soccer fields, 200 steps, passing 2 light posts on your right. At the second post, face South and see a large tree at 160 ° about 35 steps away. The letterbox is at the back of the tree under some sticks and leaves. It is best to approach the tree from the back and please try not to leave an obvious trail in the grass.
This park is usually pretty empty except on Saturday and Sunday during soccer season. If there are games going on do not attempt this box. Please be discreet and rehide well
