As of August 7, 2010 the McNab Dog Letterbox is back in place.

Letterbox Clues:
I found Maggie May at the Santa Clara Humane Society in May of 2003. She was leaning against the kennel door with a far away look in her eyes…her lean black body looked like a tuxedo with white breast, white socks, and white tip tail. Her amber eyes followed me as I walked passed her. Needless to say, I ended up going back and adopted her on the spot.

Maggie is unlike any other dog I have ever had. The tag on her kennel at the Humane Society indicated she was a “lab mix.” But about three months after I adopted her, I was on the beach in Davenport, and ran into a couple of older farmers from Monterey County. Both took one look at her lean body and compulsive desire to follow my instructions as I threw the ball towards the water, and said that there was no doubt in their minds that Maggie May was a “McNab.”

I had never heard of a breed called the McNab, but in the following months I researched on the internet and learned about this unusual breed of dog. Loyal to a fault, McNabs are very protective and devoted to their owners. Bred for working on ranches, herding cattle and horses, and hunting small game, McNab’s are a truly American breed that were first bred in Mendocino County in the nineteenth century.

Maggie May loves to go on hikes and long walks. During the summers, we go to this (her favorite) park every evening. We have hidden Maggie’s letterbox there. You may need to read all the clues listed below to determine the exact location of the park.

In the City of St Joseph; travel to the park by the river,
From the parking lot, walk towards the East hills
The orchard is on your right, a sea or roses on your left
As you make your way down the asphalt walkway
Enjoy the scurrying squirrels; hear the planes overhead
Continue to the first crossroads, bear to your left as you walk on
Coming upon a man on horse; check for the dedication to sister cities
Pune, India and San Jose, and a great warrior named
S Maharaj….
As you stand facing his statue, turn around walk more or less north
Continue several yards until you reach the beautiful redwood
Around the base, in amongst the new volunteers, is what you seek!

Please make sure to hide it well after finding it, as the redwood volunteers where it is hidden are all new growth and a bit sparse. Thanks!
