The Los Angeles River Center and Gardens is located at the former site of the Lawry’s California Center, near the confluence of the Los Angeles River and the Arroyo Seco, close to Elysian Park and downtown Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles River Visitor Center at the River Center is an exhibit hall that celebrates the eleven miles of natural river where reeds, willows, mulefat, and native riparian plants have returned. The self-guided exhibit describes the history of the Los Angeles River, its current status, and a vision for the River’s future.

The Visitor Center is located in the California Building and is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, the exhibit may be closed to the public for private events.

The River Garden Park is located at the corner of San Fernando Road and Avenue 26 at the northern tip of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens. It is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. The park serves as an entry point to the River Center by foot or bicycle, and adds much needed green space to the local community. The River Garden Park draws upon the Los Angeles River for its design elements and organization. Park amenities include a running water fountain, park benches, a picnic table, and lawn area.

The box is located in the River Garden Park. As you enter the parking lot for the Center, off Ave 26, turn right towards the Studio Arts Building and continue past it, turning left into a long parking lot. Park at the end of the lot.

Follow the pathway there into the Garden Park, continue on the stone path until it dead ends. Look to your left and see where you can get back on the stone path. Meet up with the stone path again and follow it until you get to a blue tile fountain. The fountain and the rocky stream to your left will probably be dry.

Find the River Garden Park sign to your right, just behind you. Face the sign and find the three large boulders just right of the sign. The box is nestled between the two kissing boulders, hidden by smaller rocks.

There are plenty of rock walls, benches, and tables where you can stamp up. Be sure to replace the smaller rocks in the crevasse to conceal the box.

Once you've prowled around the Garden Park, be sure to venture over to the River Center (which you passed when you first came in) and check out the gardens & visitor center there.
