BOX WAS TRASHED- Replaced by a new box
Phase 1 of the College Station Veteran’s Park and Athletic complex was dedicated in 2003 and Phase 2 is now underway. When completed it will include 5 softball fields, 14 soccer fields, bike trails, pavilion, and concession stands. Twelve acres of the park is designated as a Veterans Memorial which encompasses a Veterans Memorial sculpture designed by Robert Eccleston and a garden plaza. It was dedicated in November 2002 to all veterans of the Brazos Valley who have served in all US wars,.
The Air Force letterbox commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the US Air Force and is dedicated to all those who served especially my Uncle, Major George Marshalek who served in Germany and then in Washington DC from 1960 to 1985 and to my brother in law, Staff Seargeant Donald Salzmann who served in the Navy during the Korean War and then in the Air Force in Turkey until he retired in 1980.
You can find the park at 3101 Harvey Road by taking the Harvey Road exit (SH 30) East from Hwy 6. About 1 miles down on the left, turn into the entrance of the park. Park at the first lot on the right. Take the walking path to the East back towards and across the road you just came in on. Continue on the path around the soccer fields until you come to a ◊ shape in the sidewalk. When the path comes back together count 16 pavers and look left. You will see 3 groups of trees.
The box is in the center of the group on the left. PLEASE be sure to recover it well as this is a very visible spot.
This park is usually pretty empty except on Saturday and Sunday during soccer season. Do not even attempt this box if they are using the fields.
Please be discreet and rehide well.
