Birthday Bison LbNA #26882 (ARCHIVED)
***This box was reported missing in August 2007. Of course, I won't be able to check for myself for a while, so if you do find it, please let me know!***
In 1924, a small herd of bison were imported to Catalina Island to appear in the movie "The Vanishing American." When filming ended, the bison were simply left on the island, and the herd's size has since grown into the hundreds.
As I came to spend a day on Catalina for my birthday, I decided to import just one more bison to help me celebrate. To find him, you'll need to head up a road that takes you inland (the trolley, a golf cart or even your feet will take you there), past horses, birds, art and hermits. At the end of this road is a place whose name may remind you of baseball or chewing gum. Admission is $5, but you don't need to go in, though I do recommend it. Outside the gates is a little area with three benches and several trees. Find the multi-trunked tree with a bird-feeder hanging from it. At its base, covered by a large rock, you'll find the Birthday Bison.
Please be discreet. Ideally you should search when there are no other people around. If you really can't do this, then just use your wits. Have one person block the view of any muggles while the other searches, pretend to tie your shoe when you bend down to get the box, etc. And of course, close the box and re-hide carefully, checking that it's hidden from all angles.
Sadly, unlike the bison, I could not stay on the island permanently, so notification when you find the box is especially appreciated.
