Port Dalhousie is the heritage district of St. Catharines, located on Lake Ontario. It is an old port town with a district of shops, restaurants, marina, great pier for walking, lighthouses and more. Port Dalhousie is centrally located in the Niagara area, convenient to wineries, fruit orchards,Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls, great hiking, cycling, boating and more. St. Catharines is home to the Welland Canal museum where there is a fascinating viewing tower to watch enormous vessels go through the lock system. A great spot for a day, weekend, week or more.

You will be starting in the Port Dalhousie(pier parking lot. There are various ways to get here. One of these is to take the Ontario St. exit off the QEW. Follow signs for Old Port Dalhousie and Princess Cruises.
Turn left onto Lakeport Rd. Cross over the bridge (over the original Welland Canal) and turn right at next traffic light (stays Lakeport). Continue down this street to large parking lot at the back.

SUNSET VIEW LETTERBOX. This is approximately 1.1 miles, one way to letterbox. You can walk (sidewalks the whole way), cycle or drive. Two mild hills at the beginning. The rest is flat.

1. We bet a NICKEL you can figure out the exact starting point.
2. Turn right, passing the old stone jail house on your left.
3. Go up the hill. You'll need a key to turn right on this street.
4. As road bends, it changes name. Don't miss the amazing sea captain, on your right, welcoming you to Port Dalhousie.
5. Continue approximately 4/10 mile where you will turn right. Don't lose your head looking for this street.
6. You should see Lake Ontario straight ahead of you. You might want to rest on the benches and enjoy the view. At this point the road changes name. Check out the lovely bed and breakfast on your left.
7. Continue approx. 1/2 mile, passing a park and street on your right with names that should make you think of the Beatles (or nuns).
8. Turn right onto the street that has a cracker named after it.
9. At the end of this street you'll turn left on a narrow lane.
10. At the end of the lane, you will see a large tree on the left, home to many birdhouses. Look behind the white picket fence by the tree for "the letterbox."
