Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Mini-box - about 1/2 mile one way.
Status of Mini-box: Burned up in Fire
The "Chop Chop" mini-box is located in the Sam Houston National Forest, at the begining of the Lone Star Trail, near the small town of Richards. I have backpacked on this trail before with Silver Eagle, and it is a great escape into the woods and wilderness.
Directions:
Get to the town of Richards (which is East of Anderson and West of Lake Conroe. From town, go east on Hwy 149, from Hwy 1486 intersection) for 3.9 miles. Turn right at sign for the Lone Star Trail. Park soon after on left in the parking area.
To the Mini-box:
Start at the trail sign, and go through the z-fence. In about 200 yares the trail forks. Go right on trail heading at 200 degrees. Soon you will cross under some power lines. Continue across on the trailfor about another 1/4 mile. You should come to a dead tree running along the trail on your left. At the far end of the tree is a stump. From the stump continue on the trail counting 185 steps. You should now be where 2 logs run along the right side of the trail. Just past that are 2 trees about 6 feeat apart, and leaning in opposite directions. Look between these trees at 190 degress for a large pine tree. Walk 3 yards to the back side of this tree. The mini-box is at the base, on the back side, covered with a stick pile and leaves. Please re-cover it well.
