The city of Belpre was the second permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory. Established along the Ohio River in 1789 by members of the Ohio Company, the location was surveyed the previous year as Belle-Prairie, French for beautiful meadow.
Belpre provides ample opportunity for relaxation and recreation for the entire family. Civitan Park borders the Ohio River and offers a boat ramp, fishing, swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, walking and jogging tracks, ball fields, picnic shelters and much more.

NOTE:
In the above park you will NOT find the Wild Goose letterbox. The park department cut down the entire hedge around the flagpole!!!!!! And I have elected to not replace this box.

Difficulty: Very easy
Terrain: Drive up then a very short walk on flat ground.
Time: Less than 15 minutes after you park.
Distance: Less than 40 yards from car to quest and back again.
Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands.

First find your way to Civitan Park down by the Ohio River. Drive around the park until you find the two Historical markers close to the inside park side of the road. From the historical marker by the large Civitan park sign take a heading of ~ 330* and walk 140 steps to the center of the white octagonal structure. From the historical marker titled Devols Floating Mill Park take a heading of 52 degrees and walk to the white octagonal structure (avoiding duck/goose poop on the way). From the center of the octagonal structure take a bearing of ~ 360* and you will see a tree. Go to the opposite side of that tree and standing on the walk take a bearing of ~ 355* and walk 55 steps and stop before running into the horse shoe shaped hedge. Walk around to the open side of that hedge and face the tall pole and stand tall and proud. Walk to the pole and head 180* to the hedge. Bend over and look under the hedge and you will find a leaf covered cap over your quest. Lift the leaf covered cap and remove the Wild Goose letter box from beneath. Go to one of the many benches close by and leisurely do your stamping. When done make sure the box is resealed and make sure the coast is clear before discretely returning the box to its hiding spot beneath the leaf covered cap under the hedge. I hope you enjoyed your search, as easy as it might have been and if you have time for more Letterboxing, check out the clues for the three letterboxes in Parkersburg, W.V. about 4 miles across the Ohio river.
