Quick and easy letterbox.
May be unaccessable during winter snow.
Alive and well 05/23/2009.
The "shoe tree" is located just a short distance from the "Pioneer/Miners Grave Site" letterbox, on the south side of Highway 18, about 0.3 miles west of Holcomb Valley Road.
This once shoe-covered tree, is on the north side of the highway 10 feet behind fence between mile markers 57.90 and 57.82. The box is located due south from the Tree across highway next to boulder nearest the fence (to the left of two other boulders, under a small pile of rocks.
I was unable to discover the history regarding the tree, and where all the shoes came from. In June 2004, the Sierra Club removed all the shoes, but they have begun to bloom once again. More Tree Info and Tree Picture
Please respect the environment. Update May 2009 - all shoes removed again!
