Visit one of the most photographed trees along Lake Superior's shores, hanging on by a visible root, standing atop a famous formation. Thousands of people see this sight from the water, but far fewer visit it by land.
At the top of the stairs, with your back to the sign that indicates the eponymous Beach straight ahead, and the eponymous Falls to the left, take 21 steps forward to a spot with a birch on each side of the trail. Turn right and walk in 6 steps to find the letterbox under a decaying birch, where it meets a small stump.
Hike length: 5-8 miles
