The stamp in this letterbox comes from a drawing of a Pileated Woodpecker made by Baby Sand Pipe. We saw this amazing creature while discovering a letterbox at Wadeview Park.
Greenwood Urban Wetland, a.k.a. "the dog park" is a hidden gem among downtown Orlando's parks and lakes, and a favorite among the furry four-legged set. **Dogs enjoy this park off leash, although most have too much fun with each other to bother with two-legged visitors. Nonetheless, if you are not a dog person, you should skip this hunt.**
Visit Greenwood Urban Wetland, located off Mills Ave. just south of Anderson Street. Find a proper place to park. You will cross a bridge over still water. At the end of the bridge, turn so that you are facing south. What you seek is beneath you.
This special letterbox has a thermometer inside. When you leave your mark, also record the temperature at the time of your visit. And be sure to hide the box better than you found it.
This letterbox is dedicated to our beloved dog Pepper, who enjoyed Greenwood as much as any dog or human ever could.
********
About the Pileated Woodpecker: Nearly as large as a crow, the Pileated Woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in most of North America. Its loud ringing calls and huge, rectangular excavations in dead trees announce its presence in forests across the continent. The Pileated became scarce with the clearing of forest, but is now making a comeback, even appearing in city parks.
