*** Part of my Beer Series ***
Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 2.5 mile RT)
Recommended Ink: red & black
Status: alive
Freetail Brewing took flight in 2008 and gets its name from the 30 million Mexican Free-tailed Bats (the Official Flying Mammal of Texas) that live in nearby Bracken cave. They now have two locations, the Tap Room near downtown and the Brewpub near Eisenhower Park, where this box can be found.
Directions:
For the Brewpub, go to 4035 N Loop 1604. For the box, from N Loop 1604 go north on NW Military Hwy for 1.7 mi and turn left into Eisenhower Park. Go to the far left side & park near restrooms.
Clues:
Walk past restrooms & playground to kiosk with maps and onto Yucca Paved Trail. Go past Hillview & Cedar Flats Trails to loop jct. Follow loop right around to Yucca Natural Trail and go on it all the way until it crosses Cedar Flats Paved Trail. Go left on paved trail a short way to jct with Live Oak Trail. Go left on it 92 steps to small clearing with big cactus in middle. Go right on small path 25 steps to large multi-trunk cedar tree on left with Pampas grass bush next to it. LB is at back base under a rock & leaves.
Hike length: 2-3 miles
