The media and our own hopes and speculations can lead us to imagine some ridiculous odds. In reality, crazy deaths and lucky
breaks are far less likely to occur than we generally believe. So blow your money on blowfish (it probably won’t kill you), not
lottery tickets (you probably won’t win), and try to steer clear of falling coconuts. Remember though PARKing in L.A. can be
HAZARDous to your health.
Caution: Road Work?
Begin with a roll of the dice between the handball and basketball courts where a small grove of eucalyptus grows. Walk towards
Mexico keeping an eye out for a wall the neighborhood artists have been practicing on.
Odds of being the victim of serious crime in your lifetime: 1 in 20
Odds of getting colon cancer: 1 in 20
Double the odds above and count that many steps from the inappropriate Mickey to something found in the next set of odds on
the right side. Look between it and the wall.
Caution: Slippery When Wet?
Continue on the reclaimed train bed under a “type of card game” to the second large widow maker on the right. Use caution
when looking under the back side.
Odds that you will die this year from a shark attack: 1 in 300 million
Odds that you will die this year from falling debris from a palm/coconut tree: 1 in 250 million
Caution: Falling Rocks?
Continue your unlikely survival under the second card game. Traverse the hill to a lone yucca by the building. Look not in the
front, but in the …
Odds that an event with a probability of 1,000,000:1 occurs in America today: 1 in 295
Odds of dying from falling down: 1 in 246
Caution: Pedestrian Crossing?
If you manage to beat the odds above follow your own footsteps under both large structures you walked under to a chain-link
fence on the right. Follow it up to something that frequently gets hit by lightning. Behind it is where it’s likely to be found.
Odds of death by lightning strike: 1 in 2,500,000
Odds of dying from eating Fugu (blowfish) in Japan: 1 in 3 million
