About 1.5 mile easy walk. The map link doesn't get you to the entrance so follow these instructions. This box is at Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National/State parks. The main entrance is on Lynn Rd., Newbury Park. You can get to it by taking Las Posas Rd in Camarillo toward Pt Mugu, left on Hueneme Rd, right on Protrero rd, drive past CSUCI and up the hill. (If you're local I recommend this route. ). After you get to the top of the hill it will be on your right about a half a mile ahead. Look for a large overhead sign on right.
Another option is to take Wendy Drive exit from the 101, left over the freeway if heading N and right off freeway if heading South. Follow Wendy all the way to Lynn Road. Turn right on Lynn road. Travel a few miles, and just after you pass Via Las Brisas Road turn left into the entrance.
Once inside gate:
Drive about a half a mile in to the 2nd parking lot. Take the trail that starts at right of the restrooms. Cross two bridges and pass the Native American house on your right. The Ranger station will be on your left and you can pick up a map to the many trails in this area. The building is open on weekends and sells books and exhibits Native American games, etc. On Sundays there are often activities for kids or adults there. (You will also pass a circle of rocks which is a place of Native American religious ceremonies that is still used sometimes so you might not want to let kids on it. I got scolded once by a person who used it as such.) Continue along main trail. You will pass the pond on your right (maybe dry) . When you come to an intersection, keep going straight. At the next intersection take the trail veering toward the right. Ignore any new-looking trails that people are making since the fire. It's a very obvious wide trail. Continue to the trees, up the stairs until you come to the front yard of the tall man. You will see a fence going to the left of his front yard. Go to the third post and you will see his treasure buried under some rocks. Sometimes on windy days you'll hear the tall man scream. Don't be frightened, he won't hurt you. He's very friendly, but very old. Do watch out for poison oak. When I placed this box, everything was burned away but poison oak is already making a comeback in some areas in the park.
