Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, .5 mile RT)
Status: alive, stamp split
From deep within the caverns of the Edwards aquifer comes the crystal-clear water that's helped make Lone Star the National Beer of Texas. From 1904 to 2000 it was brewed in San Antonio, so in honor of its long history in that city I have put this microbox there in McAllister Park, San Antonio's largest and most popular city park. It features an extensive network of over 25 miles of trails, some of which are paved and wheelchair-accessible. The park is a favorite of area hiking, biking and running clubs and is a nice oasis in the north side of town.
Directions:
From Hwy 281, go east on E.Bitters. Stay left onto Starcrest as road splits. Turn left on Jones Matlsberger and go about 1 mile to park entry on right. Pull in and park on left at "Turkey Roost Trail Head and Park".
Clues:
Walk left (west) to the bathrooms and go right (north) on the path. Stay left until you reach a path on your right (east) with a red and white sign ("Park Patrons Please use designated trails..."). Follow this path for 120 steps until you come to a line of boulders on your left. After finding Peanuts letterbox, continue on the path for about 210 steps until you reach a Y in the trail. Go left (west) for 15 steps, then turn left (south) on a dirt path and walk 40 steps. Look to the right (west) for a small, multi-trunk tree about 3 steps off the trail. The microbox is hidden on the back side under rocks and leaves. Please re-cover well.
