Madera Canyon is a great recreation area to bird watch, Picnic, hike or just get in touch with nature. To get to the Canyon and the box: Take I-19 to Green Valley. Take the Continental Rd./Madera Canyon exit. Continental Rd. east past the traffic signal to Whitehouse Canyon Rd., a 4way stop. Turn right and follow 7.2 mi. to the “y”. This is Box Canyon Rd. Left on the dirt road ¼ mile to Forest Road 486, Helvetia Rd. Left on Helvetia for 1 mi. to the 1st CROSS road marked FS 411. Turn right and cross the cattle guard and look to the left. You can park between two Mesquite trees. Look behind the small tree on your left under some rocks and stuff and there it is. Be careful. It will probably be protected by an army of ants. Watch for the usual desert things.
The road can be tricky after heavy rains and high clearance is recommended in spots. (unless you have rental car)
If you are on a week end hunt take a trip to the Canyon Visitor Info Station and you might see the blacksheep1&2..
