This is the first box in Varkdog’s series of "Arizona Ghost Towns" .
Seneca, along with other areas, namely Mule Hoof and Timber Camp , were support towns to early prospecting, mining and ranching in the Salt River Canyon area. While there are still some residents in the area, none are in the immediate area next to Highway 60.
From Highway 60, between mile posts 287 and 288, pull off the west side of the highway in Seneca to the “Seneca Lake Trading Post.” Follow the driveway around to the southwest of the Trading Post to a parking area. To your north a sign saying “Do Not Litter” is posted.
To the box:
Locate the “Fire Prevention” Kiosk on the southwest corner. From the kiosk follow the knee-high large rock wall to the west end. The box is hidden under the second to the last rock.
