This box was carved and planted by one of 'the kids'-- Musicman.
It is planted at an iconic University landmark made in the 1960's-- a 150 foot diameter parabolic antenna serving as a radio telescope to probe scattering properties of the earth's ionosphere.
The box is about a one mile hike each way, mostly on a paved path.
Take the 280 Freeway to the Alpine exit. Go east to the small dirt lot at Piers Lane on the right (just beyond the farmers market).
After exiting your car, cross the bridge, veer a bit right and go through the gate-- note the gate has limited hours-- posted at least 6:30-5:30- sometimes later, depending on the season). Continue up the hill, and about 2/3 of the way up, you'll encounter a bench-like rectangular block; another path veers off to the left just past this block. Follow it along past the cow grate (ankle breaker if I ever saw one!) and go an additional 16 steps. To the right is a J shaped trunk--buried at the base is the box--
After stamping in, enjoy the rest of the walk to the dish-- it's pretty cool.
