Needs for the Trail: The Map. Get one online or at the Pavilion/Shelter/Trailhead.
Ink for the stamps. There is no stamp ink in the boxes.
Water and any essentials you will need for yourself.
This letterbox adventure will take about 2 hours so prepare.

Directions: You are going to start at the Ledges Trailhead Parking lot. After you park you are going to head toward the shelter and restrooms.
There is a sign right across from the Shelter and restrooms. Do not take that path…Keep walking.
If you look at your map you will be right in the middle of the Ledges Trail
Follow the brown path till you get to the green dotted path on the right.
When you get to the Fork in the road follow Ledges Trail (turn right on the green connecting trail on Map). If you follow the brown trail on map you will miss the Bat Cave. It goes to the steps.
These are the ledges! Don’t fall over the mossy ledges! Be careful. These are big Ledges…. Keep walking the path down a switch back. You will be hiking under the ledges now.
When you come to the sign at the end of the trail, choose to be “Happy”. Follow the sign that says, “Happy Days Trail”. Beware of flying bats and acorns.
Keep walking, you will pass the bat cave……on your left. This is where all the Halloween Bats Live! Don’t be tempted to go off trail! Keep walking and look out for the trolls under the bridges. Stay on the trail for a bit. You will go past an Educational Placard “Carved in Stone” and You will pass the beautiful flight of stairs on the left, that was built by the CCC. (Don’t go up them, that will take you back to the car.)
Happy Days is about the CCC back in the Depression Days.

On March 31, 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was part of Roosevelt's New Deal. Roosevelt hoped that his New Deal would allow people in the United States to cope with effects of the Great Depression.
In 1929 the estate of Cleveland businessman Hayward Kendall donated 430 acres around the Richie Ledges and a trust fund to the state of Ohio. Kendall's will stipulated that the "property should be perpetually used for park purposes". It became Virginia Kendall park, in honor of his mother. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built much of the park's infrastructure including what are now Happy Days Lodge and the shelters at Octagon, Ledges, and Kendall Lake.

Continue, you will come to another Y. You will take the green connector path marked “Happy Days” trail. Make a right.
This is where the Nature’s little wing creatures hide.

Go down the little hill with steps, and on your left, you will see a hollow stump. The little wings are not in that one. See the next one…. They are not in that one either, but you can look in it. Go just 11 tiny steps to the North East (Heading 40 degrees) and you will see a little mossy stump. That is where one of Nature’s little wing creatures live.

Please be careful when you take the box out. You do not want anyone to know the secret hiding place. Take your time and sit on the fallen log to exchange your stamps and story. Please take care to put everything back in its place in the box. I hope you had fun. This is a very beautiful park.

Now on to the Special Twist. Keep going down the same path. You will come to a sign that says Haskell Run Trail. You can go either way, but we took the Hocus Pocus Witches directions.
We took a right and crossed another bridge. Trolls???? You will pass little poles that have numbers. When you see the number 7 (on the Left), run over and touch it, for good luck. You will pass a creepy shed on the right. Hurry pass it.
Then power up the steep hill…. Yess it takes a lot of energy. When you get to the Y and the sign - Head towards Happy Days. Turn left. If you turn right it takes you somewhere you do not want to be. Over to the Boston Run Trail…
You will see a split rail fence to the Mater Dolorsa Cemetery. Follow the path or head North over to the Cassidy Headstone surrounded by the black iron fence. When you read his tombstone, turn your back to the headstone, (at your own risk). Facing West, take a heading 220 degrees (sw) and walk 12 paces to Daniels grave. As you are reading his tombstone, take a heading of South East 120 degrees and walk 43 paces across the cemetery to a huge tree that was cut down. On the North side of the huge log under some logs you will find the Special Twist and another of Nature’s little wing creatures who celebrate Halloween.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful park with me.
Take a walk over to the Lodge to look. It is made of Wormy Wood! The only one in the Country.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
