In Tibetan Buddhism, shambhala is a sandskit term that means "place of peace/tranquility/happiness", a mystical kingdom hidden deep in the Himalayas. Shambala is a Bantu language of Tanzania. In 1972 actress Tippi Hedren founded the Shambala Preserve as a haven for endangered exotic big cats. In 1974, Three Dog Night had a hit song titled "Shambala", which was rerecorded by Rockapella in 2002 (not such a hit this time). Since 1998, Nelson, British Columbia has hosted the Shambhala Music Festival. Today Shamballa roasts coffee. (But wait, there are still more accepted spellings! Shamballah,...)
The "four corners" in Baldwinsville is a main intersection where Routes 370, 31 & 48 meet. Turning east on Route 370 from this intersection, enter the parking lot between the B'ville Diner and Key Bank, follow to the right and park in the spots along the right in the lower lot. Don't park up in the bank parking lot or you may get towed.
Up the steps and to your left you will see the Shamballa Café & Coffee Roasters. (This space used to house the Patisserie bakery, for all you B'villians.) Go on in and up the stairs. Check out the work of local artists. Look under the wooden shelves to find my very first stamp for my very first letterbox. (BYO pen & ink)
When you're done stamping, stay & enjoy a cup of fresh-roasted coffee and dessert or grab a flier from the counter for the walking tour of the village.
