The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) is a six-week summer instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. The program takes place every summer at Valdosta State University. The stamp in the letterbox you are looking for was used during the 2004 program to introduce students to stamp carving, inking, and embossing.

The stamp is now in Drexel Park. This park is located on the corner of Patterson and Brookwood, across from Valdosta State University and across from the University Center on the Brookwood side. The eleven acre park has been a park since 1916 and is easily accessed from the main VSU campus.

Find the huge tulip poplar that seems to be equidistant from the foot bridge and the playground. This tree is beside the creek and is almost completely hollow. (The rotten core of the tree is visible from the creek-side not the road-side.) On the side of the tree opposite the creek, there are a couple holes near the base that were actually filled with cement. Find the large elongated hole near the roots that has no cement. Left of this hole, there is a smaller hole that contains the letterbox. It may not be apparent at first, because it has been filled with leaves and Spanish moss to cover the box. Please conceal well before you leave.

The landmark actually pictured on the stamp can be found on the VSU campus next to the dormitory called Langdale hall.
