This letterbox is being placed by the members of the Mind Aerobics class at the Groton Senior Center. Our program keeps the brain fit and healthy and we have used Letterboxing to enhance this class. We have learned the art of carving (all students carved their own stamp), we have practiced orienteering with our compasses and we have left a letterbox for all to find.

Take interstate 95 to Groton. Take exit 88 and head south on Route 117 (Newtown Road). Look for a sign for the Jabez-Smith House on your left (it will be across from a red church). Turn into parking lot. If you would like a longer walk, continue past Jabez-Smith House and at the next light turn right into the Groton Senior Center parking lot. Walk back to the Jabez-Smith House from there. The Jabez-Smith house was built in 1783 and stands virtually unchanged from that time. At the carriage house, face east and proceed toward a stone barbecue pit with a large climbing tree next to it. The historical view about these rocks is that they were used to barbecue out doors. Stand by the tree and head 40 degrees northeast to a small foundation. The assumption is that this foundation was originally a chicken coop or a slaughter building. At the foundation, face south and walk 45 paces to a stone wall. Step over the stone wall to the eastside of the privy. At the base of the privy, gently remove the stone resting on the side of the building and you will find the Mind Aerobics Letterbox. Please replace carefully, and if you have time and the house is open, take a tour.
