Johnson Acres
This is the 3nd series of letterboxes done for a Girl Scout Gold Award to promote inexpensive family activities, which help parents and children to enjoy the out of doors, instead of all the indoor electronic activities that take away from family togetherness.
Johnson Acres is a beautiful area. This is a great place to bring your dog for a walk. Pack your lunch to eat at the picnic tables or in the open field. The land is located down N. Washington Street in Norton MA. Park across the street at the Johnson Woods/ Henrich Woods pull off across from house number 107 N. Washington St. You will need a compass for part of this walk.
Box #1: Follow the stone wall to the left of house number 107 until you come to a dirt path that looks like its heading into someone’s backyard. Follow that path beside the house until you come to a sign that says “Johnson Acres” and has a smiley face  on it. Continue to the right of the broken down house. You will see an open field with a picnic area on the right. Continue past the picnic area following the same path into the woods. Follow the path until you come to another path leading off to the left. Turn onto this path thru a mini field and in-between two birdhouses. Continue on this path for a little distance. Take a right at the first opening. Walk down into the pine tree clearing. Some very kind lover of dogs leaves a dog bowl and a jug of water for other walkers and their thirsty pets. Head towards the largest gap in the stone wall, that runs along the clearing on the left. The Dog bowl Letterbox is hidden on the other side of the wall in a hole at the bottom near a big pine tree. Do not remove any of the stones in the stone wall we want to preserve it for as long as it will last.
Box #2: Go back to the path where the jug and bowl are located. Head west and walk 7 paces to the path and follow it south. As you walk along, notice the many bottles that have been hung on branches of the trees along the paths. It makes for a fun game of eye spy as you walk. When you come to a “T” at the end of the path, look across into the woods and see a big pine tree. The bottle letterbox is behind the tree.
Box 3: Step back out onto the path and head east down the hill until you come to the end of a stone wall on your right. This is a lengthy and windy trail. When you come to a large tree across the path just keep going its only a bit further of a walk. You will come to the end of a stonewall on your right. From the roots near the end of the stonewall take 5 paces along the wall and look for a hole at the bottom. The stone wall letterbox is hidden there.
Box 4: Continue down the path. There is a fork in the path just ahead where you need to go left. Once you pass a through a stonewall, you come to a broken down house on your left. Just beyond the house there’s a little path that leads down to the water on the left. At the corner of where the house stood, there is a big tree to your right. Directly behind that tree there is a support beam that was once for the porch of the house. Hidden at the base of the next support is the Teapot letterbox. If you take the time to look at the trees around the path you may find a teapot that’s hanging on a branch in a tree.
