#1 in the Animal Shelter Series
rated easy - a drive up

The "Lucy" of the letterbox's title was my dog. She was adopted from the Norwich Animal Shelter in 1990. I encourage everyone who would like to have a dog to consider the pets available at the animal shelter. Shelter pets are very grateful to have a second chance at life with you and they will repay you a thousand times over with their love and devotion.

From the Center of Norwich follow Route 2 towards Norwichtown. When you pass Backus Hospital, get in the right lane. (Do not turn left for the expressway.) Turn right and go less than a mile to your first light. Turn right and go a short distance. Take your first right, passing the Senior Center. Turn left and then left again as you enter the park. A short distance and then turn right, a parking area is on your left. Park here.

The Norwich Animal Shelter's hours are weekdays 9 - 10:30 AM and 2 - 3 PM and weekends and holidays 9 - 10:30 AM only. If the pound is open, drop in and visit the dogs. You might want to bring along some treats or toys for them.

At the northeast corner of the shelter, there is a large tree at the base of the driveway. From this tree take a bearing of 320 degrees and walk 20 steps to a big rock with a tree growing out of it. The box is under a rock at the base of the tree.
