Welch Park is in the Poquonock section of Windsor CT along the Farmington River. Where Route 75 crosses the Farmington River, turn onto Niles Rd. You will find Niles Rd. across from Poquonock Elementary School. Continue about 1/4 to the John R. Welch Park welcome sign on the left. Turn into the parking lot and park near the swimming pool. Find the gravel road next to the pool and walk downhill. Watch for cars as this is a very busy baseball/softball park in the spring and fall.
Walk past the row of wooden fence posts on the right until you reach a large 3-trunked maple tree across the road. Stand on the grassy patch on the right of the tree facing the river. The road overpass will be visible through the trees toward the left. Take a reading of 170 degrees and proceed about 50 paces to a tall tree surrounded by many smaller beech tree trunks. You will find Bat Boy nestled in the beech tree trunks and covered with leaves and sticks. Please rehide well, as this can be a busy area.
Welch Park is the home of Windsor International Little League. I chose this location to commemorate the many years that my brothers and I played little league baseball at Welch Park during our years in Windsor. Mom spent many years in the stands cheering us on, and Dad helped coach many of our teams. I carved this stamp at a cub scout meeting and it seemed fitting to leave it here at the park. I hope you enjoyed finding my first planted letterbox!
