Angora Fire 2007 / South Lake Tahoe: (4 Boxes)

This Letterbox is dedicated to all the firefighters who participated in the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe, California.

Directions:

From Highway 89 take Fallen Leaf Lake Road, then take Left onto Tahoe Mountain Road, and then Right onto Angora Ridge Road. Follow to the end to the parking area, there is a fee for parking. (Self-paying machine)

As you drive down Angora Ridge Road after about 1.5 mile you will begin to see the damage done by the fire on your left.

#1: “The Fire”

The Angora Fire started on June 24, 2007 and was contained just over a week later. The Fire had taken over 250 structures and burned over 3100 acres of forest.

Start at the trail head that is adjacent to the parking lot, this is marked by a wooden gate that at the beginning of the trail.

Follow the path as you go up the path you will pass signs on your left and from this point in about 48 steps you will come to two iron posts on each side of the trail, from here continue up path approx. 63 steps. Look to the Right and you will notice two trees together with a log between them about 25 steps from the path.

Under the log, at the base of the tree, on the right is your find, under rocks and bark.

#2 South Lake Tahoe Firefighters.

They all had done an outstanding job of not only putting out the fire, but also saved hundreds of homes with their incredible effort, they are all to be commended.

Go back to the main path and continue up the path, in about 230, or so steps, you will come to a New Growth Pine Tree on the right side of the path, and is almost on the path itself. It will be the first new growth tree on your right you will come to.

At this point take a compass bearing of directly North, and you will see a tree about 23 steps from where you are. At this tree take a bearing of directly West, which leads to a large rock, with a small rock at the base, about 15 feet away.

Between the rocks you at the base of the large rock is your find under several rocks and bark.

#3 “The Other Supporting Firefighters”

To all the supporting Firefighters who came to help put out the great fire, and for their outstanding job of going over and above to support the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department. Without their help the fire would have done much more damage.

Go back to the main path and continue up the path, in approx 280 steps you will come to a large boulder that is on the right side of the path. Go around on the right side of the boulder and stand on the top, taking in the view of the lake.

From the top of the boulder, take a compass bearing of 150 and you will see a fairly small tree, just behind an even smaller tree.

Go to this tree.

Just in front of this tree, away from the lake, you will see three rocks; the 2nd rock from the tree on the Right, underneath this rock is the find, under several rocks.

#4 “To All Fire Firefighters” (Firefighters Seal)

To all the firefighters, who risk their lives everyday protecting us and our property from fire.

Go back to the main path and continue up the path with the lake on your left, in about 250 steps you will come to a large rock on your right. Just after this rock the path turns sharply to the right away from the lake.

Just behind this rock in the SW direction are two smaller rocks; in-between these two rocks wedged underneath under some smaller rocks is your find.
