Did You Know?
Great Blue Herons stand up to four feet tall and have special feathers that dissolve into powder. They use a serrated middle claw to distribute the powder, which they use for preening or cleaning themselves.
You can sometime see them fish in the waters of the Chattahoochee River.
I used to jog down a trail along the Chattahoochee River every day after work and loved to watch this great bird. I have since moved and can no longer just go out my back door and hit the trails. I now just found a great place to go on my lunch hour in hopes of seeing the blue herons fish.

Clue:
Enter The Medlock Bridge Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Park in the first parking lot and locate the trailhead behind the picnic table. Walk down the short trail to the main trail and go right. Take about 100 steps (remember Iā€™m only 5ā€™4ā€) and look right for a tiny path and you can see a tree with a sign posted on it. At the base of this tree is where the Blue Heron is hiding. Take caution sticking your hand in the hole of the tree you never know what is living in there. If you are quick you can get away with not pay the parking fee.
