To reach Anna Maria Island: take rte
64 west out of Bradenton Fl. This road
continues to Manatee Public Beach. Turn right and continue to stop light.
Turn right and follow road to northernmost part of Anna Maria City.
At the stop sign (Pine Avenue) turn
right and continue until you see the
Anna Maria Historical Society on the
left side of Pine. (Hours summer: T-S
10-1; winter hours vary) This is an
interesting little museum and restored
home "Belle Haven". Bring your camera
and take pictures of our jail with
"no bars, no doors, no windows"..There
is a picnic table on the grounds and
a short distance away is the General
Store which has a good deli of salads
and sandwhiches
This is a short walk and a fairly
easy find...but when you find Fish, you will also get clues for another
mini letterbox on the grounds.
Clues: Look for the Belle Haven sign and follow this path to the "Y".
Take the left path. This entire area is landscaped with native Floridian
plants. You will see a wooden viewing stand...sit on the bench and enjoy the
view of the canal. Then look behind the bench for a dead, hollowed-out stump. Hidden among the roots of the
tree next to it, covered with leaves
and twigs, you will find "Fish".Take the
"prize" if there's one there!
