GREAT BLUE HERON BOX
This is one of my favorite places in Humboldt County. Enjoy!
From 101 take the Samoa exit in Arcata
Get onto Samoa
Take a left on G st
About 4 blocks down on right side is the parking for the Arcata Marsh
The Interprative Center is in view from this parking area - that is the
direction that this journey begins (there are a couple other locations where trails start, so I am just heading you to landmark in view, that statement does not mean go to the Interpretive Center)
At the first fork right from the parking area go left up the two steps
Soon you will cross railroad tracks - up the path turn right and cross the bridge. After the bridge you will reach another fork - go left again. At the next fork (No Name Pond sign) go right.
Stay straight on this trail (there is a viewing hut on the left) until
you get across the open field. Once there, you will reach another fork - go right. At this point there will be 3 side turned stumps on the right - go past all three. Next is a bench, walk past this bench, a few steps after is a trail on the left, take the trail towards the clump of trees. Under these trees is a signboard, on one side of this triangular sign is a picture of the GREAT BLUE HERON.
once you see this turn your back to the board,
Take 35 steps back up the trail
Veer Right - take 17 steps
Veer Left - take 10 steps
Veer left - take 20 steps - Enter the tree area
What is not up is down - What is not left is right
