I Love This Game! #2

Difficulty: Easy
Status: Active

THE TORONTO RAPTORS
In 1995 two expansion teams opened up in the frozen north. The Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are no longer in Canada, but the Raptors are still testifying to the spirit of James Naismith, the Canadian founder of the game we love! Keep hanging in there and hooping it up in Hockey heaven Raptors!

CLUES
This box is between Towne and Garey Aves., near 491 Arrow Hwy, Pomona. From the 10 Fwy go North on Towne and turn left (West) on Arrow Hwy. Turn right into the parking lot just before Orange Grove. After enjoying the Post Office that faces the court, head west on the paved path and stop to notice the pastime of the young. Follow the path around the west end of the skate park and notice the contrasting foundations of the pastimes of the young and the not-so-young. (I have to think the not-so-young are not-so-crazy about the increase in noise level bombarding their pastime of choice these days.) Follow the path east between the two generations until you notice an arched gate on your right. (Peek over the gate into the backyard of the Palomares Adobe, one of the first Adobes in the region, est. 1851. The Adobe is open on Sun. afternoons between 12-2 (or 4) for viewing.) Parrelling the wall that separates you from the Adobe, count the trees (Cypress? Juniper?) on your right. You will find the box two feet up on the back side of the ninth tree.

07/30/05 we may change the location
THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS
This one's for Poppo (Coach Gregg Popovich) who coached the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens from 1979 to 1988 and took them to their first men's title in 68 years while living modestly with his wife as dorm parents and eating coveted burritos at Juanita's (a fast food stand on Indian Hill Blvd. a few blks. south of the 10 frwy. on the west side).
Now the Spurs have picked up their 3rd NBA trophy under the demanding eye of Pop. Ten gallon hats off to the multicultural SPURS!
*This box also contains the trophy stamp. You add the year (2005) as it will probably move to another team next year.

CLUES
This box is in the city of Claremont, near Claremont Ave. and Ninth. Turn West on 9th at Claremont Ave. and park in the lot on your right. Locate the Gloria and Peter Gold Student Center. Keeping the student center on your right, walk north up the paved path. The basketball courts will be on your right as you pass the center. Continue north until the pavement ends. Walk 17 paces ahead on the dirt path, just past the gardener's shed, and you will find the box under some stones on your right, near a large aloe shaped cactus and across from a large stand of prickly pear cactus as dangerous as Poppo himself.

Thanks for looking up our boxes,
