Go to Route 95,between Quartzite & Yuma. 12 miles south of Quartzite and approx. 50 miles north of yuma, turn east on Palm Canyon Rd. Head into the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge. It's home to 3000 + Mountain sheep and other very tough wildlife.
Follow the dirt road past the Wildlife Refuge sign and proceed to the end of the rd. at the parking lot and trailhead.
Signal peak ( 4877 Ft.) looms above you. Snuggled within it's steep folds are a few clusters of native palm trees that survive freezing winter nights and 120 + degree days in summer.
Proceed up the trail (approx. 1/2 mile) until you reach the small white sign , on your left, that points your eye to the 1st. group of palm trees.
Don't leave the main trail. Count 92 strides (approx. 2.5 ft.) from the sign intersection to the next intersection up the main trail into the canyon. At the 92nd step you will see a VW sized boulder to your left. Leave the trail onto a smaller trail and go 10 strides until you reach the rock. The letterbox is under the north side under some rocks. Be very cautious of snakes, scorpions and extreme heat. Take drinking water with you. You will find a lot of information about the area on the Kofa web pg. and at the parking lot. There is primative camping at the trailhead. Enjoy and contact me at
