These are 2 boxes out of 3 in our Halloween Series.
Boxes located at Harkness Park in Waterford. Follow RT 1 to Rt 213 and follow signs to park entrance. Fee charged during spring/ summer to park. Evenings are free or reduced. Free after Labor day. This is an easy 1/2 hr loop that can be done with a jogging stroller. Kid friendly. Hidden by Baby Hann, Toy Train, KK.
Directions and clues: Box #1 (Boo!, Beware!) once in the park-head to upper parking area. Once out, take a few minutes to look around and take in the view. Head toward bathrooms. Take path to the right behind bathroom. Head towards the old building. Take right on treed path. At 7th tree, take a left to stone wall. On right hand side of wall, go in about 5 ft. See 2 loose rocks in middle. Remove and find your prize. Sit and stamp and rehide carefully, very busy area. BOX DOING WELL AS OF JULY 2005
Head down the path adjacent to the wall into the nature preserve. Beautiful view of tide pool. About 1/2 way down the loop go into observation hut and view all kinds of birds, egrets, herons, etc. Continue on path to entrance of nature preserve. Read about the nature preserve on stone marker. Hidden behind the marker is your 2nd prize (Box #2 The friendly ghost). Please rehide carefully. NOTE BOX #2 REPORTED MISSING 10/04.
Harkness is a great place to go to the beach, picnic and take a tour of the gardens and mansion. Kite flying is great here and so is biking on the paved paths. Enjoy!
Keep an eye out for more halloween series boxes! There are other boxes hidden here-check them out!
