Got a report that the park pulled this box.
Not sure if I will get a chance to replace it or not.

This box is placed at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, at the Leonard Harrison State Park side of the gorge. This is one of the most scenic areas in all Pennsylvania (just ask Ed Rendell). Take famous Route 6 to Wellsboro. Have a hamburger at the Wellsboro Diner. They’re great! Then head out Route 660 about 10 miles to the Canyon.

Note: despite the name, this trail is not for turkeys. It is listed as a one mile hike to the canyon floor. It may be, but it is a challenging mile and the return trip even harder. Very young kids may not want not apply. My box only takes you half way down, so most people should be able to handle it.

Head to the overlook area. Go towards the right to the start of the Turkey Trail. You will notice right away that it is labeled “Turkey Path”. I don’t care, my family has always called it the Turkey Trail. By the way, my wife’s grandfather was one of the men who helped build the lookout, trail and visitor’s center. That is his bronze statue at the overlook area. Well, it could be him.

So, get walking.
Pass the 1st major switchback.
Pass a lookout point with benches.
Pass a set of stairs and another bench.
On to another bench/overlook and your first glimpse of a waterfall (more to come!)
Cross one bridge, then another.
More falls on your right, then a third bridge.
Keep going over more boards and you will be rewarded with another, bigger falls.

At the next landing, with a beautiful view of the falls, Stop. Sit on the bench.
When the coast is completely clear, hop over the railing and reach under the far end of the deck, way underneath, for the Turkey Trail box.

You can stamp in comfortably on the bench. Then replace it very carefully, way back under so it will be there a long time.

Please send me a note to report your find and condition of the box. trainear@comcast.net
