What could be better than a walk with a pinnacle rock with views (if there aren’t too many leaves) and a big flat balanced rock?

This is a 1.9 mile walk at the Stillman-Danaher Preserve, part of the Litchfield Land Trust. Maps are available on their webpage and at the preserve. The preserve is located on Clark Road in Litchfield, about 0.6 miles north of Route 118.

Walk in on the stem part of the trail. At the beginning of the loop turn right and head up to the pinnacle. Enjoy the view and continue on. After you turn past the end of the loop the trail is mossy and looks like it was once a somewhat straight road. Walk along until the blue blazes take a sharp left turn. It looks like the road used to go straight here. Right after the turn you pass through a little stand of mountain laurel that is only a couple of feet high and a few feet around. When the laurel ends, immediately turn right and walk about 10 steps into the woods to a large oak. You will find the duc under a rock cover behind the tree. Return to where you left the trail and continue on. In only a few more steps the trail curves to the right passing along a fallen tree. The trail becomes twistier after this. Eventually you will pass the flat rock and then return to the beginning of the loop. Walk back out the stem to your car.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
