Robin’s Nest

Patapsco Valley State Park
Alberton Road Trail Parking
8100 Dogwood Road, Windsor Mill MD 21244

FYI - parking is limited at this trailhead

Start at the Alberton Road Trail Parking lot of Patapsco Valley State Park. Go around the gate and head down the road. The river will be on your left. You will see a house on your right. This is a private residence. The road splits, like a circular driveway. Stay to the left, since the right is part of the private residence.

After passing the house, go around another gate. You will see a covered bulletin board and a sign for the Thru Trail on your left. Follow the Thru Trail for a little over a mile, following the river. Along the way, you will pass the following sites in this order:

- Pass a little beach area on your left.
- Pass a rock wall on your right. You may see rock climbers!
- Pass under the power lines.
- Go over a small bridge. There is a rusty blue and green car on your right.
- Pass a large truck that is up-side-down on the other side of the river.
- Pass a large side trail on your right that switches back, like a u-turn.

You are getting closer to the Robin’s Nest!

Start looking for a large business building on the other side of the river. Once you see the large business building, start looking to your right for a large three-sided foundation. It looks like a long stone wall. Take any trail on your right and find the stairs at the center of the foundation. Stand at the bottom of the stairs facing the river. Take 4 kid-sized steps to the trail. Turn right onto the trail. Take 8 kid-sized steps. Turn right. Walk straight to the stone wall. There is a SPOR on the ground at the base of the stone wall. About 12-18 inches above the SPOR, look for a loose rock in the wall. Behind this loose rock, you will find where the robin hid her nest!

Hike length: 1-2 miles
