Get off exit 162. Head East on 100 S to Main Street. Take a left on Main Street and travel North .5 miles to 200 N. Turn left at 200 N and head west about 100 feet. You will see the Rail Trail parking lot on your right. (Also a resting spot and a bathroom) Walk south out of the parking lot and turn right and walk up the asphalt trail to the Rail Trail. Turn left on the Rail Trail and walk 30 adult steps south. I invite you to read the information plaque on your left titled, "Before This Was a Trail." You will be facing east. Turn to your right, walk 10 steps (facing south) and then turn right off the trail into the grass. Walk 5 steps to a tree. The first letterbox is in the tree.
Walk back up to the rail trail and face south. You should be looking at the bridge that crosses the Chalk Creek River. Just before you get on the bridge there is a dirt trail off to your right that follows the river to the west. Walk through the two concrete barriers and follow the trail west along the river for approximately 300 adult steps . You will see a teepee, and a hut that is being built by local youth. Off to your left you will see a small bridge that the youth have made from large branches. Find the tree that is located on the southwest side of the small bridge. Letterbox number 2 will be located where the branches meet the trunk of the tree. Enjoy this wetland, wooded area. Please remember to respect the things that our local youth are building.

Hike length: 0.5 miles
