Most people have heard of the seven deadly sins, a grouping and classification of vices within Christian teachings, but here in Texas there are some sins almost as deadly. This series contains 6 examples of TX sins to avoid if you want to be a proud Texan, and can be found at Kerrville-Schreiner Park. It was placed for TALE 16 (TX Proud) and the logbook is in the last box.

Directions:
From I10 go south on TX 16 for 0.5 mile, left on TX 534 Loop S for 4.3 miles, left on TX 173 for 0.2 mile, then left into Kerrville-Schreiner Park and check in at office to pay, get map and gate code. Go right on TX 173 for 0.1 mile and left into west side of park, left at first jct then left again at next jct to Fawn Hideaway Campsites and park by restroom/shower building.

Box 1: Yankeeism
Failure to avoid creeping Yankeeisms, like asking for a slice of pee-can pie, saying "you guys" instead of y'all, and asking for a pop instead of a soda is inexcusable. To find this Yankeeism, walk back to road and go left about 300 yards to Bottom Teal Trail (Trailhead 5) on right just before stop sign. Walk on trail 70 steps then go right off trail 5 steps to multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is within trunks 1' high at back under rock and needles.

Box 2: Chili Beans
Beans in chili! No, just no! Continue on trail 165 steps and go right off trail 17 steps to multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is within trunks 1' high under rock and needles.

Box 3: Zipper Boots
Get a rope! Continue on trail 335 steps to where it bends right 180 degrees. Go left 12 steps to cedar tree with oak tree next to it on right. LB is between trees under rocks and leaves.

Box 4: Bad Hat Etiquette
Wearing a cowboy hat is a nod to tradition, so follow the tradition. Don’t wear a felt hat in the summer, don’t wear it at the table, and don’t mess with another feller’s hat. Continue on trail 215 steps to where trail bends right 180 degrees. Go left 5 steps to multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is in middle of trunks 1' high under a rock & needles.

Box 5: Failure to Know TX History
Being a proud Texan requires knowing some of its history, like when Texas declared independence, the six flags that have flown over Texas, and at least two people who died at the Alamo. Continue on trail 210 steps to where trail bends right 180 degrees. Go left 15 steps to large multi-trunk cedar tree. LB is in crevice on left side 3' high behind rock.

Box 6: Not Texas Proud
Even though pride is considered one of the seven deadly sins, here in Texas it is a requirement to be proud of your state and let everyone know it every chance you get. Continue on trail 210 steps to just before trail bends right 180 degrees. Go left 15 steps to gnarly cedar tree. LB is at back base under rocks & needles.
