Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 600 yards RT)
Status: alive
A community was established in 1886 on the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway on a tract of land bought by Mifflin Kenedy, and it was named Kenedy Junction in his honor, later shortened to Kenedy. It has a rich and colorful history, from earning the nickname "Six Shooter Junction" to being named the "Horned Toad Capital of Texas" in 2001. Between May and November, visitors can stop by the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce to schedule a Toadyville tour, but you can always go to Joe Gully Park to see this toad.
Directions:
From Hwy 181 go southwest on TX 72, then immediately turn right on Bellaire Blvd for 0.3 mile and enter Joe Gully Park. Park on the left by the walking trail.
Clues:
Walk right (counter-clockwise) on cement walking trail as it goes past pond, bends right and goes behind baseball field, then bends left. Go to second bench on right across from bridge on left. Go behind right side of bench to green fence post in barbed-wire fence a little right of a big tree. Go right 4 steps through bush branches to next green post with LB at base under a rock.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
