Go to Fort Borst City Park in Centralia, WA, off of I-5 Exit 82.

Enter through the main gate. Drive past the playground and the restrooms and park in the first parking space you can find.

Begin your hike on the Fort Borst One Room School House trail. Walk southward along the paved trail until you come to a red brick building on your right. On that building, you will see a gray drain pipe coming out of the side. Stand directly in front of the drain pipe and face the wall made of rocks. Now look down and slightly to your left. At about thigh level, you will see a small rock in the wall. Your first “Best Friend, Tippy ” lies behind the rock in a crevice.

Continue on down the paved trail heading south. You will come to a large green medal building. Stop in front of this building and look over to the left side of the trail. You will see a large old stump. Inside this hollowed out stump, covered under a bunch of leaves, you will find your second “Best Friend, Max the Mighty.” Rehide well and cover with leaves and other rubbish.

Continue on down the paved trail until you come to a fork in the trail. Go to your left. As you round the corner look up and off to your right. You will see a large rock engraved, “Rhododendron Gardens Planted 1970’s Lewis Company. ARS.” You will find your third “Best Friend, Baron Von Compton” directly behind this stone covered under a SPOR.

Continue down the paved trail. You are now heading north. Walk past the dog park. Past the Borst Lake sign on the right. Go to Borst Shelter #1. It will be on your left hand side. In front of the shelter you will see a pine tree with an off shoot coming off of it. At the base of the tree, under the off shoot, you will see some pine branches. Your fourth “Best Friend, JazzPurr” is taking a nap behind the branches. Just for your information, JazzPurr is a very large Siamese cat and he has a very big stamp!

Please be sure to rehide and cover your “Best Friends” well so others may find them.

Thank you for taking a walk through the park with us.

Yours on the trail,

Wolf Dancer
