Difficulty: Very easy!
Mermaid's Lagoon was originally planted down in the keys (Long Key) but due to a 2005 hurricane season that walloped the region, the box was pulled from that location. However, the logbook and stamp are in excellent condition and originals from 2004.
When re-hiding, please do not feel that you need to leave the box partially exposed in order for the next letterboxer to find it. Please cover completely to ensure the safety and longevity of the box.
Directions: From I-95 exit Old Dixie Hwy East. Turn left on Walter Boardman Lane and drive approx .8 of a mile. You will see a sign for the Florida Birding Trail on the right next to a parking area and gate marked B-12. Park Here.
From Granada/SR40: Turn on N. Beach Street, drive approx 10 miles. Turn right on Walter Boardman Lane and drive approx .8 of a mile. You will see a sign for the Florida Birding Trail on the right next to a parking area and gate marked B-12. Park Here.
From Cowboy & Indian Letterbox: Continue North on N. Beach St. Drive approx 7 miles to Walter Boardman Lane. Turn right then drive approx .8 of a mile. You will see a sign for the Florida Birding Trail on the right next to a parking area and gate marked B-12. Park Here.
You'll need insect repellent.
To reach the trail head cross the street.
Enter through gate B-11.
Follow the yellow blazes then bear left at the fork to Boardman Pond Observation Platform. When you pass under a palm leaning over towards the left, look to the left for a fallen tree trunk. The box is hidden well behind it. From here you can see the observation platform-just bring the box w/you to the deck and take your time logging in.
Please re-hide well! Thanks & enjoy.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
