THIS BOX HAS BEEN DESTROYED :(
To find this letterbox, make your way to Terry Farrell Park (also known as Wolf Hill Park). The entrance you want is across from Carman Rd. right there at the traffic light. This letterbox contains a store bought stamp.
Go to the large baseball field to the right of the small tree line, east of the tennis courts. This is where the St. Hugh / St. Elizabeth Saints finished their perfect season – 23 wins, no losses – by winning the Division Championship. My nephew, JHM120, played on this team and it is in their honor that he and I planted this letterbox.
Go and stand at the backstop, between the two dugouts. You’ll see the letter ‘S’ on each side of you. Look towards the mound of this field of dreams and imagine the two teams battling each other for the championship. Close your eyes and feel the sunshine, smell the hot dogs and hamburgers being barbequed by the parents and hear the cheers of the spectators and the crack of the bat.
Now open your eyes and turn to your right. At about a 280* compass heading, you will see a hole in the fence of the next ball field over from you. Go through the fence and head towards the 1st Base dugout. Go into it and walk out the other side and head towards the 3rd Base dugout of the NEXT field over. (If there is a game going on when you get there, just walk around the middle field).
Behind the 3rd Base dugout is a small patch of woods. Enter them and watch out for Poison Ivy, which seems to be everywhere on Long Island. Look for a small Five Sister tree at the NW Corner of the tennis court. Behind it, under a SPOR, is our tribute to the Saints. Please be very stealthy when finding and returning the box and cover it real well.
Congratulations, boys!!
