lots of updates saying 1,3,4 are missing, will get up there in Aug. 7/12/10
Covered Bridges of Pittsford #1 N43 43.232 W73 03.234
The Hammond (1842) covered bridge is off Kendall Hill Road, which is west of Route 7 in Pittsford (and most northerly). Do not cross train tracks, pull off right in front of bridge.
Could you imagine this whole structure a mile downstream?
Go over walkway in bridge, go through second walk way with beam across. Look to right for a window. Four “x”s on look behind on the shelf about four feet up. The “Jack’s House” Letterbox is behind.
Others in the series and in town
Covered Bridges of Pittsford #2 N43 42.586 W73 02.537
The Depot covered bridge is off Route 7 Depot Road below the Maple Museum. Down this road you do cross the tracks (bridge is less than a mile off of 7). Go through bridge (I parked on left). Go to left/north side of road. Behind first “X” on 4 foot shelf is the “Jack’s Stars” Letterbox. Look like a tourist. From here I went to the Gorham (Pittsford #3) Bridge going straight.
Covered Bridges of Pittsford #3 N43 40.799 W73 02.234
The Gorham covered bridge (1842) is not far from where Rt. 3 and Rt. 7 meet on Gorham Bridge Road. Park on west side, walk up to left/north side of road. Enter bridge, looking behind first “X” on 4 foot shelf, against back of “X”. This is the “Cleopatra I” Letterbox, the first half on how to spell her name.
Covered Bridges of Pittsford #4 N43 41.427 W73 01.707
The Cooley covered bridge is on Elm Street, which comes down from Pittsford center. This time, park on the east side of the bridge. Go to northern side of road and enter bridge. First “X” on right is hiding the “Cleopatra II” Letterbox.
