Dutchers Bridge Cemetery is located on Route 44 at the sw corner of its intersection with Weatogue/Twin Lakes Road, a couple miles north of the center of Salisbury. The large red Twin Lakes Farm is across the road from it. The earliest stone here is from 1767 and the latest in the 1880s. The Dutchers emigrated from Holland in 1720 and it looks like this may have been a family plot before it was sold to the town.

Enter through the gate if you can. It can be hard to open. There is an opening in the fence on the other side if you can’t get in the gate or don’t want to climb over. However you get in, go back to the gate on the inside. From here, walk on a heading of about 233◦ until you come upon a stone in memory of Christopher Dutcher who was drowned Christmas 1802, at the age of 35, found May 26 and buried May 27 1803. Take heed of the words below: “When our grave you vew remember there is room for you”. Next to this is a stone for George Washington Dutcher who drowned April 18, 1782 at the age of 7. They were both sons of Ruluff Dutcher!

From here, continue on a heading of about 230◦ to the big tree. Look in the back under the debris. Beware of prickers. Double bag when you’re done so the book stays dry and cover well.
