Pack a picnic lunch.
Our journey begins at the Arboretum in Ottawa.
Park in one of the two small parking lots at the back of the arboretum.
Find the Hosta Trail which is midway between the two parking lots.
Follow the Hosta Trail through the hosta gardens and continue straight ahead down to where the trail meets another path.
Note the magnificent weeping willow with the three trunks just to the left.
Veer left and follow the path down to the Rideau Canal, walking under the canopy of a great oak on your right.
Turn right and follow the Capital Pathway towards Eagle Bridge.
Cross the bridge and continue on past the ornamental fruit trees.
Walk towards the Great Salicaceae which resides where the Capital Pathway and a gravel path converge.
Walk around the back of this great tree. You should be able to see the tall rectangular “Art Tower” of Carleton University in the distance.
Turn directly around facing the tree and at eye level you should spot your prize.
Enjoy a picnic lunch under the canopy of this beautiful tree and reflect on your own roots.

This box and the “planting” of it are inspired by the “roots” of our own family. The site, the date it was planted and the design of the stamp all have special meaning to our family. We have deep roots both in Canada and in the USA and have a strong love for both countries and the people in them.
