When this land was surveyed in preparation for its development in the 70’s or 80’s, it was discovered that earlier surveys had incorrectly defined the town line between Canton and Avon. This gave Avon some additional acreage that was set aside as a nature sanctuary with a self guided nature trail. There may be a trail map with nature guide at the kiosk but it isn’t a complicated trail. There is nothing very spectacular about this trail but we found it interesting to explore and a nice hike.

To reach Found Land Rec. Area in Avon, take Huckleberry Hill Rd. out of Unionville or Collinsville to Lofgren Rd. near the Canton line. Turn left onto Newcastle, right onto Kingswood and right onto St. Michaels.
From Canton, take Rt. 177 south to Sunrise Rd. on the right which very soon makes a left turn. Take the 2nd right, Queens Way, then left onto Kingswood to St. Michaels.
Look for the sign for Found Land Rec. Area. Park in the cul de sac.

CLUES REVISED 5/20/2017

From the kiosk, follow the yellow blazes to the right.
Very rocky path to begin with and the trail begins a gentle climb. Look for a 7 to 8 ft. barkless log with a barkless y-tree leading off trail. Go to the end of this tree and examine around the small stump for violin.

Return to the trail and continue following yellow blazes, continuing a gentle climb. Ignore side trails and other colors. Houses are visible on the right. The trail get steeper. The trail eventually goes over the top of a large rock and continues on. Eventually yellow turns left and leads away from the houses. Pass a tree on the right with a large vertical opening. There is also an opening on the other side of the tree as well. Look ahead and left to a fairly large rock. Go there and look between that rock and a smaller flat rock for Sax.

Continue on yellow. At the intersection with houses ahead, yellow goes left again. Looking ahead you should see a yellow-blazed V-tree. Go that way passing marker #11.The trail now descends for quite a ways. Eventually you will come to a stone wall on the right. Take a look at the stones at the very beginning of the wall. Reach under the large flat double rocks for your prize. (Drum) This used to be box #4 but is now #3.

Continue on yellow to the bottom of the hill. Cross a bridge and a wrecked car and turn left at the fork. Stay on yellow. There will soon be a stone wall on the right. Continue on yellow after the wall ends and take another sharp left turn. Look for a large rock on the left that is about 14 or 15 paces off trail. Go there and look at the back of the rock for French H:orn.. I wish I had a flat rock to anchor the box in place. Please cover well.

Continue on yellow. After crossing another bridge and boardwalk, you will eventually come to the kiosk and your parking place.
